no freeze it, should last long enough to get stuff off when you plug it in, assuming it wasn't power surged like mine

Myth... Doesnt work, been researched by a specialised firm and conclusion was it truely is an urban legend.
If u download massive amounts of torrents, ur hard disks will die sooner as normal tho.
But most of all it's static interference or the net being unstable/psu.
Also bad overclocks can cause constant datacorruption.
But the most common deathcause or damage of HDDs is ur pc getting hit by rageattacks or clumsyness when u bump into it.
Rules for handling HDDs:
1)as stated above: Cooling
2)Static free case (easiest way put a piece of carton under ur case)
3)good and stable psu / net (or a good psu that can handle powernetsurges)
4)If overclocked, make it a stable one and make sure definitly the ram can handle the speed. But also over volting too much the southbridge can cause problems.
5)If u use RAID, use one with the mirrordisk (whats it called again? Raid5?)
6)Make sure everything is plugged in good (HDD connections) wihtout any straign on the cable, so it can't wiggle after a while, big instant dead if the connectors are plugged in wishy washy.
7)similar to 6: A Sata is plug and play, but the powerconnector to that SATAHdd isn't: Do not plug in the sata powercable while the pc is switched on.

Be nice to ur hdd, but remember if u pet it, use plastic gloves (exemple: the surgical ones are cheap) cause they will nullify static electricity when u open the case. Some ppl are just very highly static charged, more than others.( reasons can be hairwidth and strange caracteristics)
